To Celebrate 2nd Local Pages Guide

Join TLU and Umpqua CDC for an old
fashioned BBQ as we celebrate the release of our second Local Pages guide to
local food and independent business. Enjoy local brisket from Emerald Hills
Beef, prepared by Smokin’ Friday BBQ. Lily Brislen will give an overview of the
Think Local Umpqua initiative from 5:30 to 6 and explain why “Local Thinking” is
important and what our mission is.

Community Development Group Makes IDAs Work Across Vast
Rural Area
When the
Umpqua Community Development
Corporation took over an Individual Development Account
(IDA) program from another nonprofit organization in 2003, the
program had nine participants. Over the last 6 years, Umpqua has
raised so much interest in the program that now Dream$avers, as
it has dubbed the IDA program, has about 540 graduates and
current savers. How was Umpqua able to bring about such a
dramatic turnaround? The answer lies in its aggressive outreach.
