Community Development Group Makes IDAs Work Across Vast
Rural Area
When the
Umpqua Community Development
Corporation took over an Individual Development Account
(IDA) program from another nonprofit organization in 2003, the
program had nine participants. Over the last 6 years, Umpqua has
raised so much interest in the program that now Dream$avers, as
it has dubbed the IDA program, has about 540 graduates and
current savers. How was Umpqua able to bring about such a
dramatic turnaround? The answer lies in its aggressive outreach.

Foundation Awards $50,000 to Umpqua CDC
This funding
will help meet the increasing demand for foreclosure counseling, with the goal
of assisting 700 Oregon homeowners facing foreclosure.

Umpqua
CDC Awarded $900,000 in Federal Stimulus funding to Help with the Foreclosure
Crisis.
Funds will be used in two ways; 1) for Umpqua CDC to acquire foreclosed
properties for rentals or to resell to low income homebuyers, and 2) for Umpqua
CDC to provide deferred zero interest loans to homebuyers for them to purchase
foreclosed properties. These funds will help reduce the inventory of empty
foreclosed properties throughout our service area of Coos, Curry, and Douglas
Counties.
