David's House

David’s House is a residential care facility for individuals who are victims of traumatic brain injuries.  The facility will have seven SRO units, a central kitchen and a dining area with a common space for relaxation.

The goal of David’s House is to assist residents in moving from their acquired disability to full independence through rehabilitation.  Eventually, the residents will move through a transition into alternative and independent housing.  The importance of this type of facility can be seen by the discussion of social service and mental health professionals in Douglas County about the lack of services for Traumatic Brain Injury adults in Douglas County.

Construction is well under way and the project is anticipated to be completed in May, 2008.

Gold Coast Apartments

The Gold Coast Apartments are located in Port Orford and Gold Beach, Oregon.  The purpose of the project is to provide workforce housing for low to moderate  income residents in Curry County.  The Curry County Commissioners donated  the land to Umpqua CDC because they recognized the need for this type of housing in the area.  When completed, the Gold Coast project will consist of eight units (some having an ocean view) and will feature many “green” building techniques, such as photovoltaic panels and radiant-floor heating.

Construction is set to begin on these properties in October of this year and will be completed by June of 2008.

Location of Gold Coast Apts.

Hotel North Bend

The Hotel North Bend, a five-story structure built in 1921, was used as a hotel until the 1960’s. Since the 60’s, some of the rooms have been rented as housing, but are very small units and have minimal amenities. Umpqua CDC will renovate the building, which, when finished, will provide 33 affordable housing units. Some of the funding from this project comes from Historic Tax Credits, which promotes the preservation of historic sites throughout Oregon.

The City of North Bend is very supportive of the project, and thinks it could be a catalyst to spur further economic development in the downtown area.

Construction to complete in May 2009.

WISH House

For the WISH House, Umpqua CDC has partnered with WISH (Working for Independent Supportive Housing).  The purpose of WISH and the WISH House is to provide affordable, safe, individual, supported housing for adults with developmental disabilities.  The finished product will be 13 units that serve the developmentally disabled population of Douglas County.

Construction for this project is scheduled to begin June 2009 and is planned to completed in April 2010.
