CDC is planning to create 15 units of
supported housing for adults
with special needs in an environment that respects and encourages
independence, dignity and self determination.
in
Roseburg, Oregon. Called the "Neu Place” it will provide
11 units for residents with developmental disabilities and a group home
with 4 units for residents with severe disabilities. This project
involves the following committed partners:
Working for Independent Supported Housing (WISH),
a non-profit whose mission is to promote
affordable, independent, safe, supported housing for adults with
developmental disabilities.
State of Oregon Dept of Human Services with the new “On
the Move in Oregon” project to house
four (4) residents who are currently residing in nursing homes, but who
could thrive in a supportive group home at a reduced per diem cost.
After a
two year search we found the perfect site. It is flat, protected and
serene, yet in the midst of the City close to all services. It includes
the ranch home for a former walnut orchard and it is the last parcel
from that old Orchard. The property faces the river and is directly
across the river from Stewart Park, Roseburg’s largest park and the site
of the ‘Music on the Half Shell” free summer music series. Tenants of
our project will be able to walk to the park (pedestrian bridges are ¼
mile in either direction) or even sit in their yard and listen to the
music. The project site is located at 524 W. Homewood Lane in the
westerly section of the City of Roseburg.
In 2006
Umpqua CDC was approached by the WISH group to develop housing for
adults with developmental disabilities where they could live in a safe
cluster of independent units. WISH also works with SORB (Southern Oregon
Regional Brokers) to place individuals with developmental disabilities
in housing and to broker supportive services. SORB and WISH have worked
for two years with Umpqua CDC to find an appropriate site and design the
housing. |
